MRI Safety in a
Changing Field Forum
Exposure Limits for Time Varying Magnetic Fields
Exposure Limits for Time Varying Magnetic Fields
- Participants will gain an understanding of the physical principles underlying acute biological effects of time-varying electro-magnetic fields. They will be able to apply the various limits to exposures occurring in MRI, particularly the recent ICNIRP limits. They will have an understanding of the range of occupational exposures and induced fields in MRI and how they relate to the limits.
- To inform technologists/radiographers of these new developments
- New information that will start to become available on the MR console
- The intent of this new operational mode and why it will provide for the safe scanning of active implants
- For the MR vendors, under the auspices of the IEC 60601-2-33 safety committee (MT40) who are also anxious to use this opportunity to get the audience international perspective on: 1) This new mode does not yet have a name. 2) What would be appropriate, short, understandable in the international perspective
- This additional mode will impact slightly on workflow. What would be appropriate, short, understandable in the international perspective button labels
- Participants will be able to identify the changes that have been made to the "American College of Radiology (ACR) Guidance Document for Safe MR Practices: 2007" in the soon-to-be-released, "ACR Guidance Document for Safe MR Practices: 2012" version, and explain the reasons behind these modifications.
